Ind. man gets 32 years for 17 bank robberies

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man who admitted robbing more than a dozen banks during his lifetime has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Fifty-five-year-old Von Eric Sweatt pleaded guilty to five bank robberies Thursday in federal court. Federal prosecutors say Sweatt used a mask and air pistol to rob four different Indianapolis banks on five different occasions. At the time, he was on parole from a previous bank robbery conviction and on probation for another bank robbery in Hamilton County.

Prosecutors say Sweatt admitted robbing a total of 17 banks in his life.

Sweatt also was ordered to pay restitution of more than $20,000 to the banks and serve five years of probation after his release.
