Driving to Wis.? Watch out for deer

MADISON, Wis. -- Deer collision season is back.

State transportation officials are warning drivers again that the height of deer's mating season is October and November. That means Wisconsin's signature creature will be on the move, darting onto highways and roads.

The state Department of Transportation says deer are the third most commonly struck object in state vehicle crashes, behind collisions with another car or a fixed object. Law enforcement agencies recorded some 16,340 deer-vehicle crashes across the state last year.
