Read the signs: It's 25 mph
I'm wondering how people are able to pass a written test to get their driver's license when they can't read?
Martin Drive in South Elgin has always been a residential street with a 25 mph speed limit and over the last few years has become a shortcut for people who are in a big hurry and feel that they can do 60 and 70 mph down our street. Plus, road construction has been going on all summer long on all of Kane Street and Martin Drive so they have big signs posted at the end of every street saying "Road Closed to Thru Traffic" and not one driver is able to read them. This doesn't stop them and there are times when it is impossible to get through, so they will either turn around in our driveways or just back up down the entire street.
The police department was made aware of these speeders last year and all they did was drag out a big unit and set it on our street to tell these drivers how fast they were going. A lot of good that did since they can't read.
This has gotten out of control and something needs to be done before some of the children in our neighborhood are run over. We've already found animals on our street that have been run over by them.
