Murder suspect admits attack in video
Jurors Tuesday watched murder suspect Ronald O'Rourke's videotaped police interview. O'Rourke is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Pamela Howat in June 2009 after breaking into her Hanover Park home.
The 47-year-old O'Rourke pleaded not guilty to the woman's murder and home invasion charges. DuPage County prosecutors showed jurors a video of an interview conducted by Bloomingdale Police Sgt. Matthew Wolenberg recorded days after Howat's death. In the tape, O'Rourke claims Howat was injured as he grappled with her over a garden hoe she brandished after discovering him in her home.
During the course of the interview O'Rourke also claims a "demon was possessing and controlling" him, that his actions were "not premeditated," and tells Wolenberg he's "gotta go with an insanity thing because it was not normal ... thinking." O'Rourke's trial resumes Wednesday.
