Team outlook: Undefeated Barrington leads the way in the MSL with a perfect 11-0 dual-meet record. In a system that gives equal weight to match results and tournament results, the Broncos have the upper hand, but Fremd (10-1) is close on their heels and Hersey (9-2) is within striking distance. Defending champion Prospect (8-3) hopes to repeat. Leyden and Maine West want strong showings in their respective tournaments, while St. Viator, which was unseated as ESCC champion last year by Carmel after winning five straight crowns, looks to regain the trophy. The Lions are tied with the Corsairs entering tourney play.

Players to watch: Nick Schiavi, Marc Ackermann (Barrington); Doug Ghim (Buffalo Grove); Brad Beutler, Jackson Tworek (Fremd); Ryan Starkman (Hersey); Derek Leeney (Prospect); Michael Taylor (Wheeling); Kenny Wienckowski, Luke DeTrempe (Saint Viator).

What they're saying: "This conference meet is going to be very competitive. There are a number of very good teams and also some very good individuals from all of the (MSL) schools."

- Prospect coach Tom Martindale.

"We know that we'll have to play very well to win, but we have a lot of confidence going into it. Our team expects to win every tournament and we feel as though we belong with the top teams in the state."

- Fremd coach Josh Teschner.

"I'm unbelievably confident. As far as depth goes, we've got a stronger team this year than we've ever had. We've got 11 kids who have averaged under 80 this season, and Kenny (Wienckowski) is one of the top five players in the state."

- St. Viator coach Jack Halpin.
