Arlington Hts. board deaf to residents on garbage issue

Shame on our Arlington Heights village board of trustees, with the notable exception of Joe Farwell. While the village commissioned a survey of residents regarding garbage collection, the trustees ignored the results. Why spend money on a poll, and then disregard the findings?

A majority of those surveyed wanted once-a-week collection. While it's true keeping our twice-weekly garbage collection may only cost each household $50 a year, there are other costs not included in the bill.

How about the wear and tear to our roads? (Has anyone else been annoyed and inconvenienced by torn-up roads all summer?) What about the waste of gas to fuel the noisy trucks as they roll through our streets now four days a week to collect residential garbage?

While $50 a year may not be an exorbitant amount, I would rather spend that $50 on a donation to our fabulous library, our excellent schools or some other local charity of my choosing. With four children and two adults, I live in a larger-than-average household. We fill three recycle bins each Friday; but barely have enough garbage to fill one big bag each week.

Thank you to Mr. Farwell for listening to your constituents. Too bad you couldn't convince your peers to do the same.
