Older driver safety program to start in Grafton Township

Grafton Township Administrator Pam Fender has announced that Grafton Township will be co-sponsoring an American Association of Retired Persons Driver Safety Program from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 and Friday, Oct. 1. Fender stated she has initiated offering this program to help promote driver safety for the growing number of seniors in the area

The driver refresher course is designed to meet the needs of drivers age 55 and older. It covers such issues as age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time, as well as defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road.

The program will be held at Citizen's Bank, 12101 Regency Pkwy., Huntley. AARP charges $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. This program is being offered at no cost to taxpayers.

Seniors successfully completing the course are often eligible for a up to 10 percent reduction in automobile insurance premiums.

Registration is required. Space is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Checks should be made payable to AARP.
