Shots fired in Aurora late Saturday during two-vehicle chase

Aurora police are searching for suspects involved in a two-vehicle chase in which several shots were fired in a residential area late Saturday evening.

The chase took place near the intersection of Simms and Sexton streets, police said. Two unrelated, parked vehicles were hit by gunfire. No injuries were reported as of late Saturday.

Police responded to the call about 9:40 p.m. But by the time they arrived at the scene, the two cars had driven away.

Several residents in the neighborhood heard the gunshots. Others saw the two vehicles chasing each other, police said.

"At this time, the reason for the gunshots is unknown. We're still working on that," Sgt. Kevin Wiencek said Saturday night.

Police are interviewing eyewitnesses in attempt to identify the perpetrators and the vehicles. As of late Saturday, no one was in custody.
