Series of celebrations to open bike trail

A "rolling" ribbon-cutting on Saturday, Sept. 25, celebrates the completion of a scenic 32-mile trail system for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Members of the Elmhurst Bicycle Club will ride the entire length of the Salt Creek Greenway Trail, which runs from Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village to Brookfield Zoo.

The trail links the Schaumburg Bikeway System, the Illinois Prairie Path, the Salt Creek Marsh, Fullersberg Woods, and six eastern DuPage County communities.

Pedestrians and bicyclists have been using the Greenway Trail since last fall, but the final touches - including signage and bike racks - have just been finished.

"At places along the trail, there'll be a rolling ribbon cutting," said Mike Hullihan, village engineer in Oak Brook.

The celebrations are scheduled hourly from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The schedule:

• 9 a.m. Target, 401 W. Irving Park Road, Wood Dale, hosted by Wood Dale and Itasca.
