Burlington Central Hall of Fame tickets on sale

Tickets for the Burlington Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony are now on sale at the high school athletic office.

The banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the high school commons. The induction ceremony will follow in the high school auditorium. Daily Herald Fox Valley Sports Editor John Radtke, a Burlington Central alum, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Eight individuals, three boys track relay teams, a girls basketball team and a boys track team will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The individuals being inducted include Dan Sheldon, Gary Stran, Jim Swanson, John Turk, Jenna Real, Mike Simpson, Chris Wesson, and Susan (Yurs) Mertes. Additionally, the 400 relay team of 1995, the 3,200 relay team of 2003 and the 400 relay team of 2001 will all be inducted. They each won state championships. The 1983-84 girls basketball team will be enshrined as will the 2001 state runner-up boys track team.

Tickets are $15 each. The banquet will be catered by Chianti's of Geneva. For more information, call (847) 464-0024.

NCAA information night: South Elgin High School will be hosting an NCAA information night on Sept. 29 in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. Hall of Fame coach Jim Harrington will be sharing information with students and parents about the process of becoming a college athlete.
