Thanks for help with refugee kids
Opening the World Through Literacy (OWL), a nonprofit, volunteer-run tutoring program for refugee children in the Glen Ellyn area, would like to acknowledge those who so graciously supported our Lunch for Learners effort this summer.
The Council of Catholic Women from St. Petronille Parish, Gary Mayo from Dairy Queen, Jenny Goebig from Noodles, Danny Sronkoski from Tap House Grill and Don Kuntz from Einstein Bagels each provided a noontime meal once a week for 10 weeks to our 25 students, plus numerous volunteers.
When presented with the opportunity to get involved, each of these supporters stepped up eagerly and often went above and beyond their original commitment. Lunch became a highlight of the day and was always welcomed with great anticipation and heartfelt gratitude.
The delicious local fare provided by our supporters was many of the students' main meal of the day and, for some, their first taste of American cuisine. The OWL Lunch for Learners partnership is truly a glowing example of community at its finest.
Thank you to all those who made it happen.
