Tavern raising money to benefit Little City, cancer fight
Prairie House Tavern in Buffalo Grove is hosting its fall Fundraising Corn Roast from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink organization in memory of John Anczarski, who was killed in an accident last summer while raising money to fight breast cancer.
The event, the tavern's second annual fundraiser for charity, also will benefit Little City in Palatine.
Tavern owner Gary Gilliam met Anczarski, 21, of Ashland, Pa., when he and three childhood friends stayed with Barbie Hasenberg of Buffalo Grove on Memorial Day weekend while they were on a cross-country bike ride to raise awareness and money to fight breast cancer.
As their journey crossed through New Mexico and was close to the finish line, Anczarski was struck by a car and died. Their journey is documented at thepinkpedal.wordpress.com.
The day will feature live music by bluegrass group Uncle Zesty's Oldtime Bootknockers, Timothy Duhig and Georgetown. There will also be drink specials and a buffet featuring the corn roast. The cover costs $10.
The tavern, at 2710 N. Main St., will be offering many items for auction and raffle, including use of a two-bedroom condo with loft in Breckenridge, Colo., with a dinner and rafting package. Best Buy of Vernon Hills is donating $1,000, Hasenberg said.
For details, call Barbie Hasenberg at (847) 606-9038 or Gary Gilliam at (847) 415-2255.
