Palatine rebounds against Fremd

Palatine finished a disappointing eighth on Saturday at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational, but the Pirates were back in high gear on Wednesday.

Palatine took the top 10 spots in a convincing 15-50 Mid-Suburban League West victory over rival Fremd at Deer Grove East.

"We wanted to get back to the team we've always been, taking it to people in the race," said Palatine coach Chris Quick of the Pirates attack. "We wanted to go out there and take it to people instead of hoping it would fall in our lap."

That's what the Pirates did.

Reuben Frey (15:53), Anthony Gregorio (15:53), A.J. Laskowske (15:54), Marcus Garcia (15:55), and Tim Meincke (16:06) went 1-through-5 to complete the Pirates' scoring.

The Pirates punished the first mile and didn't let off the pedal in storming to the victory.

"We definitely ran much better as a team," said Frey. "We were there for each other throughout the race and we executed the plan. We learned we had to stay together and go out hard."

Matthew Smaga (16:39) took 11th to lead Fremd.
