Claypool steers clear of big power brokers

For those who say I'm independent I vote for "the best candidate regardless of party," I would guess that you vote at least 85 percent of the time for the same party. However, in our next Cook County elections there is an independent candidate who may be a fresh change in Illinois politics.

Despite the fact that Forrest Claypool was former chief of staff to Chicago Mayor Daley, and that he entered the race for Cook County assessor late, I will vote for him; because the big power brokers like Daley and House Speaker Michael Madigan hate the thought that he might win.

Joe Berrios, the Democratic candidate, would be just another sycophant for the Chicago business fat cats (Republicans and Democrats) who want to continue to have their real estate - skyscrapers, apartment complexes, business buildings - underassessed as usual. This age-old policy has always caused workers homes to be overtaxed.

So, I invite everyone to at least consider putting your X next to Forrest Claypool's name for Cook County assessor in November.
