Elgin police hope TV can solve murder

Elgin police hope "America's Most Wanted" can help them arrest the prime suspect in the February 2010 slaying of 29-year-old Hugo Navarro on the city's southwest side.

Police are asking for help finding Amilkar Antonio Caro, a 33-year-old cabdriver charged with gunning down Navarro in the 700 block of Adams Street on Feb. 4.

Police say Caro was following a woman who stopped to see Navarro at his home and Caro became jealous and shot Navarro several times.

Caro fled the scene, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police spokeswoman Sue Olafson said officials don't know when the TV show will air the case of Navarro's murder.

Caro has relatives in various spots throughout the United States and Mexico and he should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

People can anonymously call Elgin police at (847) 289-2700 or "America's Most Wanted" tip line at (800) 274-6388.
