Drug collection Saturday in Campton Hills

Campton Hills police will be collecting unwanted pharmaceuticals Saturday as part of an initiative to safely dispose of medication.

The prescription drug "Take-Back" program is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon at police headquarters, 40W115 Campton Crossings Drive. Participation is anonymous, and no questions will be asked.

"We want to get unused pharmaceuticals out of the medicine cabinet to reduce the risk of children and potential abusers getting them," Police Chief Dan Hoffman said. "An added positive is keeping these things from being flushed down the sanitary system so they don't taint our water supply."

Hoffman said the program, open to village residents only, is possible due to cooperation from the Drug Enforcement Administration, which has agreed to destroy the collected substances in accordance with government regulations.

Police said all prescription and nonprescription pharmaceuticals, including liquids in consumer containers, will be collected. Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, including syringes, will not be accepted.

Participants are encouraged to remove any personal information from bottles in advance. For more information, call (630) 584-0330.
