Badgers LB Borland out for season with injury
MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin sophomore linebacker Chris Borland will miss the rest of the season after re-injuring his left shoulder in the 11th-ranked Badgers win over Arizona State.
The school announced the decision Tuesday morning after Borland had been scheduled to talk to coach Bret Bielema and the training staff the night before. Wisconsin says it will apply for a medical redshirt for Borland to gain an extra year of eligibility.
Bielema says everyone agreed it was Borland's "only option."
Borland, last season's Big Ten freshman of the year, had offseason surgery to repair cartilage in the shoulder, but aggravated the injury in the team's opening win against UNLV. He returned Saturday, but lasted only a few plays before hurting the shoulder despite wearing two braces.
