This year marks Barbara Rinella's 24th year of giving book reviews for the Donor Club. This year's selection is Lisa See's 2009 novel, "Shanghai Girls" which chronicles the journey of two sisters from 1937 Shanghai to Los Angeles in the 1940s and 1950s. It's a story of dreams dashed, the survival instinct, sibling rivalry, history and love.
Rinella, a former teacher, defines herself as an "academic entertainer." For many years she has been celebrating literature and learning through her programs on current books.
