Hanover Park family displaced by blaze

A Hanover Park family was forced to relocate Friday afternoon when a fire gutted much of their home on the 6800 block of Valley View Road.

Officials said the family was able to escape before officials arrived at the scene.

Hanover Park fire officials responded to the call shortly before 4 p.m. They were assisted by the Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Roselle and Streamwood fire departments.

The fire began in the home's first-floor family room and quickly spread throughout the house.

Hanover Park fire officials said the fire was accidental.

"The house is not inhabitable and the family has been relocated with the help of our fire chief and the Red Cross," Battalion Chief Larry Pikora said. They are staying with other family members in the area.

Structural damage to the home was estimated at $50,000. Damage to the family's possessions was an estimated $25,000.

The family's three pets, two dogs and cat, died of injuries sustained in the blaze. Firefighters found them trapped inside the home but were unable to resuscitate them.
