Carpentersville man gets 19 years in 2008 mall shooting
A Carpentersville man pleaded guilty Friday for his part in a 2008 shooting that injured a rival gang member outside a Spring Hill Mall parking lot, authorities said.
In exchange for that guilty plea, Oscar D. Jacobo, 20, of the 6000 block of Hampton Drive, received a 19-year prison sentence for one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, prosecutors said.
At 6:30 p.m. March 27, 2008, Jacobo shot a 19-year-old man in the Kohl's parking lot; the bullet was lodged next to the teen's heart, prosecutors said. He survived.
While most of the mall is in West Dundee, Kohl's is in Carpentersville.
Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher accepted Jacobo's plea and under Illinois law, Jacobo is required to serve 85 percent of his sentence. He was given credit for the 902 days he has spent at the Kane County jail while the case was pending - he was being held on $750,000 bail.
