Scouting Leyden vs. Hinsdale South
Leyden (1-2, 0-1) vs. Hinsdale South (1-2, 0-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hinsdale Central's Dickinson Field
Last week: Leyden lost to Downers Grove South 41-0; Hinsdale South lost to Addison Trail 35-8
Outlook: Leyden hopes facing playoff-caliber teams in Proviso West and Downers South prepared it for a stretch where it needs to be successful to get a third playoff berth in four years. "Our younger and less-experienced guys are a little more battle-tested," said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani. "We feel we have some must-win games coming up and it starts with Hinsdale South. We moved the ball a little better last week but defensively we didn't play well." Justin Bolo rushed for 61 yards on 17 carries and the Eagles also get WR Adrian Ruiz back for what has traditionally been one of their tougher opponents. But the Hornets have been hit hard with adversity that includes having to play homes games at Hinsdale Central because their new field turf installation was delayed by the summer construction workers' strike. Kylen Williams, who rushed for 220 yards and 3 TDs in a 41-32 opening win over Romeoville, has been limited the last two weeks with a sprained ankle, starting QB Jackson Panice is out with a back injury and two offensive linemen have been hurt. "That's tough for them and losing the quarterback is devastating, especially with a guy they built their offense around," Cerasani said.
