Scouting Elk Grove at Schaumburg
Elk Grove (2-1) at Schaumburg (3-0)
When: 6:30 p.m. today at Gary Scholz Stadium
Last week: Elk Grove d. Fremd 29-22; Schaumburg d. Rolling Meadows 47-6
Outlook: An excellent tuneup for two teams looking to win division titles and a big showcase of two of the MSL's most explosive players in Elk Grove QB-S Nick Meyer and Schaumburg RB Shepard Little. It also is a test of Elk Grove's aggressive defensive scheme led by Meyer and LB-WR Joe Bishoff that had 4 INTs last week against the diverse offense with QB Mark Iannotti of the state's top-ranked 8A team. "They give you so many different looks, you don't want to get very vanilla so they know what you're doing," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "They're a complete team right now. I'm impressed with how much they have in offensively at this time." And the Saxons now have a full complement of seven experienced offensive linemen to handle what's coming at them while their defensive front led by Joe Zolper will try to contain Meyer. "The fact we're able to get pressure with four is good," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "It lends itself to more sleep at night when you think about defending someone like Nick." Doll said WR-DB Eddie Stahl should return to a more expanded role after playing 75 percent of the snaps last week because of injury. Schaumburg has won the last two meetings of a series it leads 19-14.
