Workers break gas line on Elgin's west side

Construction crews in Elgin struck a natural gas line Thursday morning, fire officials said, closing Highland Avenue for about three hours.

Crews struck a 2-inch Nicor pipeline on Highland at about 10:45 a.m. causing the leak, officials said.

Nicor crews were on the scene at 11:17 a.m. and were able to have the gas line shut off at 1:30 p.m., according to a spokesman. Gas was turned back on at approximately 3:30 p.m.

There were no reported injuries.
