Police: Man tried to get girls in his SUV

Aurora police are investigating an attempted child abduction that occurred in a grocery store parking lot on Tuesday.

About 4 p.m., three 11-year-old girls were approached in the parking lot of the store on the 400 block of North Farnsworth Avenue by a man driving a black SUV who told them to come over to the vehicle, according to police.

The girls told police the man opened the vehicle's door and told them to "come here."

When the girls refused and began to walk away, the man apparently displayed a gun, according to police.

The girls ran into a neighboring business and saw the vehicle drive away south on Farnsworth Avenue, according to police.

The suspect is described as a thin to medium-built black man in his 20s with black braided hair, brown eyes and dark skin, according to police. He was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a gold watch.

The black SUV is described as having silver trim along the bottom with dirt on the body near the tires.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
