Man killed by bomb committed suicide, family says
The family of a Wisconsin native who was decapitated by a pipe bomb near an Evanston Middle School Tuesday morning believe he took his own life.
In a statement obtained by ABC 7 Chicago, the family of Colin Dalebroux said, "We are devastated that our beloved son, Colin Dalebroux, lost his 15 year battle with depression. We know that Colin committed suicide.
"We have no other public statement to make and we ask that our privacy be respected during this deeply painful time for our family and Colin's many friends."
Dalebroux, 21, was found in Fitzsimmons Park next to Nichols Middle School by a man walking his dog early Tuesday morning.
Police said the family gave them permission to interview their son's mental health providers and the department was viewing him as a person with mental health issues.
"The Evanston Police Department would like to extend our sympathy to the father of Mr. Dalebroux and thank him for his cooperation," police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
Police said Dalebroux acted alone Tuesday and there was no threat to the community.
Evanston District 65 officials closed Nichols Middle School Tuesday and Wednesday while the investigation continued. The school is scheduled to reopen today.
