Deerfield woman denies ID theft to get drugs
A Deerfield woman police say was using the identities of seven people to obtain prescription drugs pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court.
Susan Miller, 50, faces up to five years in prison if convicted of forgery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Rod Drobinski said Miller, of the 700 block of Grouse Court, was arrested Aug. 4 as she entered a pharmacy in Buffalo Grove.
Miller had called the pharmacy earlier in the day, Drobinski said, and had used the name of a Buffalo Grove-area woman who has a prescription for a painkiller drug to order a refill for that prescription.
But the woman whose name was being used had already complained to the pharmacy that someone was using her name to obtain drugs, Drobinski said, and police were called.
An officer stopped Miller as she entered the store, Drobinski said, and found she was carrying four types of prescription pain killers.
Police also found Miller with the personal information of seven people, Drobinski said, including the types of prescription drugs they use.
Associate Judge Christopher Stride scheduled a trial of the case for Nov. 29 and ordered Miller, who was freed after posting $7,500 for bond, to appear in court Nov. 10.
