DeWitte needs to spend taxes wisely

I am amazed at how vehemently St. Charles Mayor Don DeWitte came to the defense of city union electricians who make an average wage and benefits of $136,000.

The mayor says their base salary of $84,000 is fair. Is it fair when experienced high voltage electricians can be hired for $70,000? Is it fair when benefits are 40 percent of salary instead of 30 percent as in private industry? Is it fair when they loiter during work and may later get paid overtime?

We need someone who will fight vehemently for the struggling people paying the bills. We need someone who doesn't raise electric rates by 6 percent in May and then when people cut usage pay $100,000 to a firm to determine how much more to raise rates. We need someone who isn't determined to add a storm sewer fee to every landowner. We need someone who would squeeze city government just like the taxpayers are being squeezed.
