Cops: Tote of jewelry stolen from Libertyville hotel
The Libertyville Police Department is investigating a jewelry theft at the Hampton Inn Suites, officials said Monday.
According to police, a female jewelry vendor was checking in about 5:40 p.m. Saturday when a male Hispanic grabbed one of the totes that contained her jewelry and ran out of the hotel in the 2000 block of Shell Drive.
The offender was described as 5-feet, 10-inches tall, with a medium build, wearing a white shirt and black pants.
The female victim chased the offender and saw him jump into an older "beat up" blue and green van, officials said.
The victim attempted to stop the van by confronting the driver of the vehicle, officials said, and even tried to reach in the van window and take the ignition key. However, the driver pushed her to the ground and sped away, officials said.
The driver of the vehicle was also described as male Hispanic of unknown height and weight. He had a medium build and was also wearing a white shirt and black pants.
A third male was observed in the back seat, but the female victim could not identify him, officials said.
The female victim suffered minor injuries during the incident, officials said.
