Purdue WR Smith out for season with knee injury
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue receiver Keith Smith is out for the season with torn medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee.
Smith was injured on a tackle near the sideline in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 31-21 win over Western Illinois. An MRI scan was performed Tuesday, and Purdue made the announcement at the start of coach Danny Hope's weekly media availability.
Smith led the Big Ten with 91 catches last season, and he had caught 18 passes for 123 yards in two games this season. The senior could seek an extra year of eligibility because the injury occurred so early in the season.
Sophomore Antavian Edison is moving into the starting lineup. Hope also said speedy freshman O.J. Ross will have a greater role.
