Home-schooled kids can learn at forest preserve, too

Home-school families are invited to join the Forest Preserve District of Kane County this fall for a series of educational nature programs.

Homeschool Explorations is a monthly nature program series specifically for home-school families.

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, learn all about the fascinating world of spiders at the Campton Forest Preserve, 4N379 Town Hall Road, St. Charles.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the program moves to Dick Young Forest Preserve. "The prairie at Dick Young Forest Preserve is breathtaking in the fall, even when the plants are done flowering. During this program, we'll take a close look at the seeds the plants have formed, and discuss their amazing adaptations," said Forest Preserve District Naturalist Jaclyn Olson. Dick Young Forest Preserve is at 39W115 Main St., Batavia.

All ages are welcome, but activities are designed for children ages 5 to 10. Each program runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

To register, call (847) 741-8350 or e-mail programs@kaneforest.com. Registration is $2 per person or $8 for a family of four or more. Visit kaneforest.com.
