Father, stepson electrocuted erecting flagpole
PITTSBURG -- Authorities say a southern Illinois father and stepson were electrocuted when the flagpole the elder man was relocating in his yard toppled onto power lines.
Eighty-year-old John Tonner and his 54-year-old stepson, Tommy Mockerman, died after the accident Saturday evening in Pittsburg in Williamson County.
Relatives tell KFVS-TV that Tonner was moving his flagpole from one location in the yard to another when it slipped and toppled onto power lines. Mockerman was electrocuted while stepping in to save his stepdad.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
