Johnsburg hands Dundee-Crown tough loss

Dundee-Crown's offense was in high gear on Friday night, but unfortunately for the Chargers the visiting Johnsburg offense was just as potent.

Johnsburg senior quarterback George Bielis completed 21-of-30 passes for 397 yards including 4 touchdowns leading the Skyhawks to a thrilling 38-35 victory at Dundee-Crown in Carpentersville.

Dundee-Crown's senior quarterback Tanner Kotlan completed 20-of-35 passes for 366 yards leading the Chargers to 525 total yards.

The Chargers came back from a 24-14 halftime deficit and narrowed the score to 38-35 with 6:58 remaining on a Kotlan 66-yard scoring toss to Steve Schwartz.

Dundee-Crown's defense held giving the Chargers the ball with 2:56 remaining, but Kotlan was sacked on his own 44 yard line on fourth down allowing Johnsburg (1-2) to escape with the victory.

Dundee-Crown (0-3) had four crucial turnovers including 1 interception returned for a 30-yard score in the first half and another interception that set up the another Skyhawk score in the third quarter.

"We have to eliminate the turnovers," said Kotlan, who threw for 3 touchdowns. "We scored, they would score. They were a very competitive team."

Schwartz scored on a 79-yard kickoff return in the opening quarter and the senior also had 8 receptions for 213 yards and caught 2 TD passes.

The Chargers' rushing game also showed some life as Adrian Asani rushed for 82 yards on 13 carries, with Danny Sharp adding 59 yards rushing including a 35 yard touchdown run.

"We've got a lot better," said Dundee-Crown coach Mike Davis. "If we can eliminate the turnovers maybe we can win the game."

Mike Molway added 172 receiving yards on 6 catches helping Johnsburg to 515 total yards.

"The line did a great job and the receivers were getting open," added Bielis of the Skyhawks' attack. "The defense stepped up when they needed to."
