Scouting Maine West at Waukegan

Maine West (1-1) at Waukegan (0-2)

When: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Weiss Field

Last week: Maine West d. North Chicago 14-6; Waukegan lost to Antioch 25-14

Outlook: What Maine West does on a regular basis and what it saw last week was a nice primer for this week. "North Chicago's speed prepared us for the speed that's about to come and it showed we can hang with that type of speed," said Maine West coach Chris Hare. Calvin Williams got rolling with 80 yards and 2 TDs and QB Ziggy Krycka rushed for 79 yards while Mike Cardamone and Ethan Slapecki led a strong defensive effort. Waukegan nearly knocked off CSL North favorite Glenbrook North 14-13 in the opener after alumnus, assistant coach and former Arena League player Nick Browder took over as interim coach just before the start of preseason practice. Reggie Richter was 7-for-21 passing for 146 yards with 2 INTs and a 73-yard TD to Jabel Atta. "They're very similar to us," Hare said of Waukegan's option offense. "We'll see who is better at it."
