Scouting Burlington Central at Genoa-Kingston
Burlington Central (0-2) at Genoa-Kingston (2-0)
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Last meeting (2003): Burlington Central 51, Genoa-Kingston 6
Last week: Sycamore 42, Burlington Central 16; Genoa-Kingston 24, Iroquois West 0
Outlook: The Cogs have yet to allow a point, outscoring Aurora Central Catholic and Iroquois West by a combined score of 43-0. They held Iroquois West to negative 43 yards rushing last week, led by senior middle linebacker Sean McIntyre and senior lineman Austin Bankson (5-11, 200). The Rocket offense should be familiar with G-K's 4-3 defense since it's the same defense they employ and practice against every day. "They look very similar to us," Central coach Aaron Wichman said. "I think that will help out a bit." The Genoa-Kingston offense is led by senior quarterback Craig Billington. He accounted for 125 of Genoa-Kingston's 282 rushing yards last week. Central senior Brandon Westergaard was a bright spot in last week's lopsided loss to Sycamore. Starting at running back for the first time this season in place of injured senior Tim Maroder, Westergaard led the Rockets with 86 yards rushing on 7 carries, including a 62-yard scoring run. Westergaard also starts in the secondary. All-BNC rusher Tre Llanes was bottled up until the final drive of the Sycamore game, when he gained 56 of his 63 yards. The Rockets practiced with renewed spirit this week, according to their coach. "Like most teams, we put a lot of focus on our Tuesday and Wednesday practices," Wichman said, "and this week we had two of our best practices of the year on those days. The kids are excited for this game and will be ready to go on Friday."
