Sheriff: Convicted Wis. kidnapper attempts escape
WAUPUN, Wis. -- State corrections officials say authorities prevented a prison escape at Waupun Correctional Institution by a man serving a life sentence for trying to kill his ex-wife.
The Department of Corrections says it worked with Waupun police and the Dodge and Fond du Lac sheriff's departments to stop an escape planned by David Larsen.
He's in prison for attacking and kidnapping Teri Jendusa Nicolai and leaving her in a trash can in an unheated storage unit in freezing temperatures.
Jendusa Nicolai tells The Journal Times a Racine County sheriff's investigator told her Larsen apparently tried to fake a medical emergency as part of his plot, but authorities were on to him.
