Round Lake Beach man hurt in Lake Villa crash
A Round Lake Beach man is hospitalized after rolling his 2006 BMW in a ditch and hitting a tree early Saturday evening, Lake Villa police officials said.
Eric Krzyvon, 45, was observed by witnesses driving east on Monaville Road at a "high rate of speed" when he crossed the double yellow line while approaching Farmhill Road at 5:35 p.m., said Police Chief Ron Roth said.
Krzyvon tried to overcorrect, which caused the car to skid and lurch into the oncoming lane on Monaville, Roth said.
The car left the roadway and drove into a ditch on the north side of Monaville and rolled over. After landing on its roof, the car skidded across the ground in the grassy ditch and into a tree, Roth said.
The driver was pinned in the vehicle, and had to be cut out by rescuers from the Lake Villa Fire Protection District, he said.
"Many witnesses observed the driver traveling at a high rate of speed, well above the posted 45 mph speed limit," Roth said. "There is also an indication that alcohol played a possible role in the accident."
Krzyvon was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with nonlife threatening but serious injuries, Roth said.
Monaville was shut down in both directions after the accident for about an hour, he added.
The crash is under investigation, and any finding will be handed over to the Lake County State's Attorney's office for charges, Roth said.
