ECC hosts auditionsElgin Community College is holding auditions for its fall play, "Ajax." Tryouts for the Greek tragedy will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. Auditions will be held in Room VPA 284D at the ECC Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive. Actors should familiarize themselves with the play and be prepared to read scenes from it during the 30-minute audition. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13. The passes are available at the library's reference desk. Passes are valid for a week. Participating museums include the Brookfield Zoo, the Lake County Discovery Museum and the Chicago Botanic Garden. The library will only lend out one per family per week. Visit huntleylibrary.org or call (847) 669-5386 ext. 21.Climate change movieThe public is invited to the McHenry County premiere of "Carbon Nation," a documentary on the worldwide challenge of climate change, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at McHenry County College Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake. Admission is free; a $5 donation is appreciated to help offset program costs. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the McHenry County Defenders at 124 Cass St., Woodstock. The film is appropriate for adults, young adults and preteens. A panel discussion with local experts will follow the 90-minute film. The event is hosted by the Climate Change and Education Committees of the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, and it is co-sponsored by the Lou Marchi Total Recycling Institute and the MCC Down To Earth Club.
