Cougars' winning streak ends

The Kane County Cougars wrapped up their 20th regular season Monday with a 7-0 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers before 5,182 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.

The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak, and the Cougars (39-30) fell short of posting 40 victories in a half for the 10th time in franchise history.

The Cougars open Midwest League first-round postseason action Wednesday when they host Quad Cities at 6:30 p.m. in a best-of-three series.

Against the Timber Rattlers, Jason Christan had 2 hits, and Rashun Dixon singled to stretch his season-best hitting streak to a dozen games.

Fielders 5, RiverHawks 4 (10): The host Lake County Fielders (41-59) ended their inaugural Northern League season with a walk-off win over the Rockford RiverHawks in 10 innings. Down 4-3 with with one out in the bottom of the 10th, Cody Strait hit an 0-2 pitch to right, driving in Josh Short and Juan Valdes. The Fielders' Kyle Higgins was 4-for-5.
