Column on mosque revealing of Cohen

Richard Cohen in his column published Aug. 18 gave reasons why it is wrong to protest the building of a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center. He tells us that the attack was conducted by "a handful of fanatics, not an entire religion."

In contrast, he says this is different from World War II where "every Nazi was dedicated to the persecution and/or murder of all Jews." He also claims that "all of Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and declared war on the United States."

Cohen, like many on the left, reveals more about himself than about those he criticizes. First, he has trouble seeing the world as it is rather than how he thinks it should be. Secondly, he claims that those who do not think as he does do so because of prejudice and bigotry while dismissing his own predispositions. Finally, he concentrates on minutia such as analogies while losing sight of the overall mosaic.
