Kenosha murder suspect arrested at home in Antioch

A 36-year-old Wisconsin man was being held in the Lake County jail today, suspected of murdering his father.

Brian Novak was arrested at his mother's house in Antioch at 7:15 p.m. Friday, four hours after police discovered 59-year-old Michael Novak beaten to death inside his Kenosha home, Kenosha Police Lt. Edo Maccari said.

Maccari said Brian Novak is expected to waive extradition to Wisconsin, where he will be charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

"Our officers interviewed him Friday, and he was forthcoming," Maccari said. "He is cooperating."

Maccari said police discovered the body of Novak's father shortly after 3 p.m. Friday while responding to a well-being check at the home he shared with his son on the 7500 block of 23rd Avenue.

An autopsy Saturday determined the elder Novak died of multiple blunt force trauma, but authorities said they are still trying to determine when the beating occurred.

"The incident itself probably happened around Sept. 1," Maccari said. "We're still trying to figure it out."

Maccari said detectives were scheduled to interview Novak's mother today. No other details were released.
