A Cook County Circuit Court judge set bond at $100,000 Saturday for a Hoffman Estates man charged with delivering a controlled substance.
Police say Simon Chagoya-Cercado, 22, sold an undercover officer two bags containing 1.7 grams of a substance that field tested positive for cocaine for $100 on Friday.
The high bond resulted from the transaction taking place within 1,000 feet of a junior high school, which makes the offense a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
Chagoya-Cercado, of the 700 block of North Salem Drive, has no criminal background, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Haley Peck. He next appears in court on Sept. 30.
