Cougars clinch playoff spot
For the sixth time in eight seasons as an Oakland A's affiliate, the Kane County Cougars are headed to the playoffs.
The Cougars clinched a postseason berth Saturday night by virtue of their 6-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, combined with Cedar Rapids' win over Beloit. Clinton lost in Burlington, so the Cougars own the top playoff spot by 11/2 games over Clinton with two games to play.
Fielders 14, RiverHawks 1: John Brownell had 14 strikeouts, leading the Lake County Fielders to a victory over Rockford at Fielders Stadium.
Flyers 6, Goldeyes 4: The Schaumburg Flyers scored 8 runs in the fifth inning to back starter Matt Elliott and beat Winnipeg at Alexian Field.
