Rally helped restore faith in country
Not sure which offended me more, the political cartoon or Eugene Robinson's op-ed piece printed Aug. 29. Both assaulted the character of Glenn Beck for spearheading the previous day's Restoring Honor rally and related events.
I was in our nation's Capitol that weekend and I came away renewed and encouraged by the united spirit of the hundreds of thousands of Americans who, for the love of God (literally), and the love of our country, assembled to be beacons of hope for our nation. Coverage was given to Rev. Al Sharpton's competing counterrally (his description), and I struggle to understand why anyone would desire to counteract an event honoring the sacrifice of our armed forces, past and present, as well as civilians who best exemplify the principles of faith, hope and charity so important at our founding.
I recently overheard a young adult conversation discussing recent reckless legislation passed by those who believe that government is the answer to whatever ails us, and heard in conclusion from one, "This country is over." To her and the countless others of all generations who no doubt share this discouragement, I say restore the faith you have in yourself and your community.
