Stassi lifts Cougars in rain

With a steady rain falling and a delay likely, Max Stassi delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to lift the Cougars to a 5-3, rain-shortened victory over the Peoria Chiefs at Elfstrom Stadium.

The Cougars trailed 3-2 when the inning began, and they rallied to win and eliminate Peoria and Wisconsin from postseason contention. Clinton and Beloit were suspended by rain in their game, so the Cougars pulled into a tie with Clinton for the top playoff spot in the Western Division and lead Beloit by 11/2 games for the wild card with four games left.

Fielders 7, T-Bones 4: The Lake County Fielders defeated the Kansas City T-Bones in a rain-shortened game at Zion. Fielders starter Ryan Bicondoa picked up his third win and sixth complete game of the season. Bicondoa threw 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out nine.
