South Elgin crash injures 2, closes part of Randall Road

Randall Road is open again this afternoon after a car and a gravel truck collided nearly head-on at Randall and McDonald roads in South Elgin this morning, injuring two - one of them seriously.

South Elgin Police Chief Chris Merritt said the car - a 2001 Ford Taurus - was traveling north on Randall at around 11:30 a.m. and struck a gravel truck, which was in the southbound lanes turning east onto McDonald.

Merritt said both drivers were taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, with the Ford drive having to be extricated from her vehicle.

Meritt said the Taurus driver, a 17-year-old from Elgin, was in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph. "It doesn't look to be life threatening. The feeling is she's going to be OK, from what my officers tell me," he said.

Merritt said a Kane County accident reconstruction team was on the scene until about 2:20 p.m. today.
