Naperville man faces charges in stabbing of Aurora woman

A Naperville man accused of stabbing a woman in a domestic dispute remained behind bars Thursday after a judge set bond at $700,000.

Carlos C. Ibanez, 28, is charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and robbery. Prosecutors said they may pursue a more serious felony charge at indictment alleging attempted murder.

Ibanez surrendered to police at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday after he learned of his arrest warrant, police said. The 32-year-old Aurora woman was found bleeding from the neck at 8:11 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 700 block of Inland Circle on the city's far northwest side. She was conscious when paramedics arrived.

Police said the violence was not random. They said Ibanez knew the victim and had an altercation with her. She was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville and then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she remains with wounds to her neck. Police said the injuries were severe, but not life-threatening.

Ibanez also is charged with robbery on suspicion he stole money from the woman's purse. Ibanez, of the 1500 block of Fairway Drive, does not have a violent criminal record. Still, a female relative obtained a protective order barring him from contact in February 2009 after alleging prior acts of physical violence and threats.

Ibanez must post the required 10 percent, or $70,000, to be set free. But, even if the restaurant worker raised bail, immigration officials have placed a hold on his release, according to DuPage County sheriff records.
