Restaurant closes to revamp menu, will reopen next week
The Grand Station restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights might look the same when it reopens in a week or so, but ownership, management, some staff and the all-important menu will be different.
A menu that was known for its length at Grand Station will be replaced by one page and no more than 25 items, but there will also be specials, said Dusko Filimonovic, who is a partner and new manager for the restaurant at the corner of Campbell Street and Vail Avenue.
Homemade pasta from an old-fashioned machine will be a signature feature, he said, and the back of the menu will showcase wine, beer and other drinks.
"We'll offer burgers, sandwiches and pasta for a casual meal, but we'll also have some exciting features like roasted duck, veal portobello and broiled Norwegian salmon," he said.
The restaurant closed Wednesday, according to a news release, and will open again as early as Sept. 7, although Filimonovic said in an interview he will not open before he feels everything is ready.
While the news release mentioned a legal settlement was involved with closing the restaurant, no further information on that was available Thursday.
Filimonovic managed the nearby Carlos & Carlos until it closed recently.
"When Carlos & Carlos did not renew their lease, I knew that I wanted to remain in this neighborhood," said Filimonovic. "To have this opportunity present itself is very exciting."
The restaurant will be great for families as well as those seeking fine dining, with prices that are moderate, promised Filimonovic.
The partners in Corner Park LLC, the new owner of the restaurant, have no relationship to any of the previous owners or any other restaurant, and have invested to support his efforts, said Filimonovic.
