• The Rialto Square Theatre's "Rialto Idol" Singing Competition returns for a second season. The competition is divided into two categories: a Junior Idol for contestants ages 5 to 15 and for ages 16 and older. • The Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy seeks local youth to audition for a variety of tuition-based performance opportunities. All auditions are open and held at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. Everyone should bring a head shot and a resume to the audition.

Teenagers ages 13 to 19 can audition for a "Glee" Show Choir from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, or from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a contemporary song and be prepared to dance.

Youth ages 10 to 19 are invited to audition for a stage version of Disney's 1951 animated feature "Alice in Wonderland" from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, or from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue, memorize 16 bars of a song and be prepared to dance.

Kids ages 6 to 9 can audition for "Sleeping Beauty" from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue and prepare 16 bars of a song with a CD backing track.

Teenagers aged 13 to 19 can audition for "A Night in Transylvania" from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue and be prepared to read from the script.

• The Elmhurst Choral Union has auditions for its 2010-11 season, which includes performances of Handel's Messiah and Brahms' Requiem. Auditions are open to those who can read music. • The 14th annual Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper Contest seeks entrants for top-notch gift wrappers. Those interested should visit MostGiftedWrapper.com to submit a photo and a 100-word essay. The deadline for entry is Monday, Oct. 18. There is a $10,000 prize for the winner among eight finalists who will be flown to New York City to compete.

• Pride Films & Plays announces the Great Gay Play Contest to be held in conjunction with the Center on Halsted. The contest seeks new works dealing with GLBTQ history, characters or themes that are important to the community and relevant to the world.

Fifteen semifinalists are to be selected by an international committee of veteran theater and film professionals. Five finalists will be performed as staged readings in the first of what is hoped to be an annual Great Gay Theater Festival in the Hoover-Leppen Theater in the Center on Halsted.
