Police say Naperville teen was racing in construction zone

A Naperville teen faces several charges after he and another motorist raced through a construction zone at 95 mph, authorities said Wednesday.

Kevin Eid, 17, was stopped just before 11 p.m. Aug. 27 while driving a black 2010 BMW east on 95th Street in south Naperville, Sgt. Gregg Bell said.

Eid also had three teens in the car with him, a violation of a state law prohibiting new drivers from having more than one high-school-aged or younger passenger in the car, Bell said.

Authorities said Eid and the driver of another car both were traveling 95 mph before they were stopped by police.

Bell said both cars pulled to the side of the road, but when the officer approached the vehicles, the second car drove away.

"After the officer got out and approached the vehicles, the guy took off," Bell said.

As the other car fled, Bell said the officer decided to focus on Eid, who faces charges of speeding 40 mph or more over the limit, speeding in a construction zone, street racing and having too many people in the car.

Eid is free on bail and awaiting arraignment. His car was towed.
