North Aurora patient stabbed in Aurora hospital; suspect held

Police continue to investigate the stabbing of a 78-year-old North Aurora woman at Provena-Mercy Hospital in Aurora.

The victim was a patient, according to Aurora police, who were summoned to the hospital at about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday to answer a call of a stabbing in Room 524.

Officers found security personnel and family members of the offender in the process of subduing the assailant, police said. The woman's attacker was visiting a family member at the hospital, who was also a patient in Room 524.

The offender, a 39-year-old Aurora man, is in custody, officials said. His name is being withheld pending the approval of charges by the Kane County state's attorney's office.

The victim was in stable but guarded condition from the wounds suffered in the attack, police said.
